A nurse attempted to “stream” me to a GP. Luckily I had more knowledge about my condition and insisted the GP wouldn’t be able to help me. Stayed in UCC, needed IV fluids because my kidney function had declined and was almost admitted overnight. I agree streaming needs to happen, just as long as the nurses doing the Nurse ECG abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz heartbeat shirt steaming actually listen to their patient and get a thorough patient history. I’m just thinking about the conversation I had with the nurse when I stood on a nail and how funny it would be with this as well.
Brilliant, roll this out nationally; waiting times and staffing costs can be dramatically reduced and spent elsewhere. Good job She isn’t sending the patient home, she is streaming them to a more appropriate health care pathway! It is no different to what 111 do, only there they do it over the phone and without ever seeing the Nurse ECG abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz heartbeat shirt patient. You would be surprised how many patients do attend AE that doesn’t need to be there BUT we need to be safe as a wrong decision could be detrimental to the patient and nurse.
I’m a very experience AE nurse who does streaming.. however, I would never turn away a patient with a chest infection, flu, etc without doing their observations ie blood pressure temperature, etc). As they could have sepsis. The streaming nurse can advise pts that attend with runny noses, toothache, back pain for 6 months, etc Many of the Nurse ECG abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz heartbeat shirt nurses are actually more hands-on and knowledgeable than the doctors. This triage system has been in place for years. The Tories set it up this way to bring down waiting times in line with their targets. It is to cover up the lack of staff due to NHS budgets.
